This document briefly outlines some of the information sharing activities in progress at the National Institute of Justice (NIJ).  This document was reviewed at the April 2011 Global Advisory Committee (GAC) Meeting.

Global Highlights, June 2011, Vol. 1

This edition of the Global Highlights features the newly-released Criminal Intelligence Resources Guide.  Developed by the Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council and its research arm, the Global Intelligence Working Group, the document provides practitioners an easily-accessible representation of the Global-recommended intelligence tools and includes links and instructions for ordering featured resources.

The U.S. Department of Justice's Global Advisory Committee members convened on April 20, 2011, to discuss the latest initiatives in justice information sharing and to add new resources to the Global suite of information sharing solutions for colleagues in the field.  This edition of Global Highlights provides a summary of those recent recommendations as well as a recap of additional spring 2011 GAC meeting topics of interest.

The U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Global Advisory Committee (GAC) - directly supported by the Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) - met on October 7, 2010, to discuss the latest initiatives in justice information sharing and to add new resources to the Global suite of information sharing solutions.  This edition of Global Highlights provides summaries of the recent GAC recommendations as well as a recap of the Global/Office of Justice Programs 10-year partnership ceremony.

 

Global Highlights, August 2010, Vol. 1

The August edition of Global Highlights spotlights Bart R. Johnson, a long-standing member of Global, who was recently presented with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Medal of Distinguished Service. In addition, the “top justice and public safety issues for the next year,” as voted on by attendees at the National Criminal Justice Association’s (NCJA) National Forum on Criminal Justice and Public Safety, are shared for widespread review.

In this edition of Global Highlights, readers will learn about two new resources that offer insight to the future of information sharing and describe the critical elements necessary to keep related programs and initiatives thriving. BJA’s Justice Information Sharing: Strategic Action Plan (2010–2012) and the new Global White Paper offer key examples of resourceful nationwide partnerships and effective collaboration that have experienced measured success and collectively identify strategic priorities for the next three years.

Global Advisory Committee (GAC) volunteers and officials are honored to present at the upcoming National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Annual Conference, to be held June 14-16, 2010, in Arlington, Virginia. The session, “From Paper to Practice: The Global Initiative Delivering Solutions for Information Sharing,” will be geard toward policymakers and practitioners. Panelists will not only discuss some of Global’s most important initiatives but will also provide real-world case studies regarding how these efforts have impacted the criminal justice field.

Global Highlights -- Fall 2008

The Fall 2008 edition of Global Highlights includes articles on the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), new Global Resources, the Criminal Intelligence Training Master Calendar, and more. Also enclosed in this publication is a copy of the Global Resolution which was unanimously supported by the Global Advisory Committee (GAC) and recommends to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) the institutionalization of funding for the Global initiative.

 

Global Highlights -- Winter 2008

Just released--the new Global Highlights! Debuted at the National Fusion Center Conference in March, this first quarter 2008 edition covers achievements by and related to goals of the U.S. DOJ's Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative, with an emphasis on efforts supporting fusion centers. Also included is the latest membership information--new Global Advisory Committee (GAC) representatives and leaders (recently elected GAC Vice Chair Carl Wicklund); award winners (Dr. Alan Harbitter and Thomas O'Reilly named to the prestigious ranks of FCW's Federal 100); and our volunteer spotlight, featuring Judge Anthony Capizzi, one of the many dedicated professionals that contribute time and talents to the success of this important Initiative.

 

Global Highlights -- Fall 2007 Edition

The latest edition of the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative's (Global) Global Highlights has been released and includes a wealth of information about the Global Initiative. This issue of Global Highlights showcases important successes, notable events, and noteworthy people. It also includes information about upcoming training (such as the Global 101 primer and 2008 National Fusion Center Conference) and important resources (such as the requested ''elevator speech'' explaining the value of the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), fact sheets on Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management (GFIPM) and a privacy policy technical framework) to help users spread the word and make Global relevant and accessible to those in the field. Global Highlights is designed to provide useful updates on the quality work being done on the Global Initiative while giving insight to its future vision and direction.

 

 

2005 Global News -- Second Quarter

Contained in this second quarter 2005 issue of the Global News newsletter is a feature article highlighting the swearing-in of the new U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, entitled Alberto R.
