Funding Sources and Programs

 

The list below contains organizations and government divisions that provide funding to information sharing and technology integration initiatives.

Please note that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), has developed special conditions for federal grants involving information technology. Before grant funds are distributed, award recipients must first provide a brief description of their projects to the State Information Technology Point of Contact. More information can be found in the Grantee Information Section.

This website provides grant resource information from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) and includes current solicitation, applications and forms, and a list of funding programs.


Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA)

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) is a government-wide compendium of federal programs, projects, services, and activities that provide assistance or benefits to the American public. Some of the program information provided in the Catalog discusses methods of administering a program, the types of financial and non-financial assistance offered under a program, eligibility requirements, and application and award processes. Programs in the Catalog provide a wide range of benefits and services, which have been grouped into 20 basic functional categories and 176 subcategories that identify specific areas of interest.

Justice Technology Information Network (JUSTNET) - Grant and Funding Information

This website lists a number of national criminal justice-related grant programs. Each program is summarized, and a link is provided for the user to access additional information about each program. The JUSTNET Virtual Library also provides a listing of Funding Sources with links to additional information about each source.


Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG)

The Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) Program provides funds to units of local government to underwrite projects that reduce crime and improve public safety. The LLEBG Program emphasizes local decision-making and encourages communities to craft their own responses to local crime and drug problems.


National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Funding Justice Information Sharing

Effective crime control relies not only on accurate, complete and current information, but also on systems that are capable of sharing information. Improvements in information technology can enhance public safety, but these improvements may be costly. This report identifies various sources for funding justice information technology and the legislative actions taken to enable justice information systems.

National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Technology Opportunities Program (TOP)

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) website presents information on grants offered through an annual competition. TOP offers an online application kit that includes a notice of availability of funds, the guidelines for preparing applications, and general instructions for submitting an application. This Web page provides information on the Crime Identification Technology Act (CITA). CITA offers assistance in improving and implementing effective state, local, and tribal justice information systems.


Office of Justice Programs (OJP), State Administering Agencies

Many Office of Justice Programs (OJP) formula grants are awarded directly to state governments, which then set priorities and allocate funds within that state. This Web page provides links to contact information for grant programs for each state.
